Robots of Brixton from Kibwe Tavares

Robots of Brixton from Kibwe Tavares on Vimeo.

Brixton has degenerated into a disregarded area inhabited by London's new robot workforce - robots built and designed to carry out all of the tasks which humans are no longer inclined to do. The mechanical population of Brixton has rocketed, resulting in unplanned, cheap and quick additions to the skyline.

The film follows the trials and tribulations of young robots surviving at the sharp end of inner city life, living the predictable existence of a populous hemmed in by poverty, disillusionment and mass unemployment. When the Police invade the one space which the robots can call their own, the fierce and strained relationship between the two sides explodes into an outbreak of violence echoing that of 1981.

The Bellows March (2009) from Eric Dyer on Vimeo.

I have dug up the zoetrope, a pre-cinema optical toy, and am using it to create and explore a visual language of loops and spirals. When spun, the complex circular sculptures, dubbed cinetropes, are a blur to the human eye but come to full animated life when viewed through shutter glasses or the lens of a fast-shutter video camera. The Bellows March runs anthropomorphized concertinas through a cycle of destroy-create-destroy, and bridges digital and physical animation processes via 3-D printed, hand-painted cinetropes.

Imaginary Forces - Science Channel Rebrand from Imaginary Forces on Vimeo.

Meet Morph. The evolution of Science Channel. Morph is fun, original and always unexpected. It can be microscopic or planetary in scale, but most importantly, Morph is always changing.

Imaginary Forces designed and created the evolution of Morph. From a variety of themed promos and network IDs to logo bugs. We carried the look across multiple programming genres, as well as systematizing the brand to maintain a cohesive brand package.

Morph represents the future of logo design. It's not limited to the traditionally static logos of the past. It breaks out of the box. That's Morph.

This graduation project was made while at the Kyoto University of Art and Design. It brings together a lot of the research I had done over the three years I spent in Kyoto, and is based abstractly on my own experiences living in Japan. Most of the concepts relate somehow to my experiences, friends, foods, things I saw, and things I felt over this time; in particular the idea of saying goodbye to close friends.

Sagres Preta Chocolate from diografic

Sagres Preta Chocolate from diografic on Vimeo.

Sagres is Portugal’s leading beer brand. This year, Sagres brewed a new product: Sagres Preta Chocolate, a chocolate flavoured stout beer.

Without a TV campaign and very few print materials, Sagres challenged their digital agency to create an online activation for their new product. Using the website as the main promotional tool, Sagres needed to generate a lot of buzz with a new approach.

Given this challenge, the agency’s creative team believed that if Sagres made a chocolate beer, the perfect way to launch it was also to create a website made of chocolate.

This said, the first step was to find and hire the best Maître Chocolatier in Portugal. Mr. Victor Nunes, artistic director of Óbidos International Chocolate Festival, started sculpting the website live at this year’s venue. Later on, his artisan sculptor team finished it at their chocolate factory. The artists sculpted the entire website in chocolate pieces, moulding it according to the design provided by the agency.

Afterwards, at the agency’s studio, the chocolate frame and all the website components were shot in the different positions and stages.

These images became the raw materials for the website.

To invite consumers to try the new product, Sagres offered a piece of the chocolate website and a 6Pack of Sagres Preta Chocolate. Every day, during a specific hour, users can ask for a bite of the wesite.

The finished work can be seen here:

Film end titles for The Losers from GiovanniBucci.com

Film end titles for The Losers from GiovanniBucci.com on Vimeo.

Web site: http://www.giovannibucci.com

Client: Warner Bros
Production: Prologue Films

Motion graphic design for the end titles and studio logos, I did the complete concept and look/treatment as well as all animations and editing. For this project I was given typography and original illustrations from the comic "The Losers". I deconstructed the flat 2D images and re-built them in 3D space in order to use depth of field and achieve a cinema look. I also mixed and animated various dirty/grungy elements to boost the overall look.

The score is not the original used on the movie. For this version it was designed ad hoc by Marco Morano (Hoxtonlab), with whom I collaborate regularly, as I wanted a version with sound effects and music timed to the animations.

France 24 - The Birds from Marcel

France 24 - The Birds from Marcel on Vimeo.

We all know the role of social networks and Internet in spreading revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.Social networks are now an essential source of information, as evidenced by the results obtained by France24, the French international news channel that broadcasts in three languages (French, English and Arabic).
It's mainly the Arabic language version that broke all audience records during this period. But the channel as a whole has benefited from an increase in audience : in March 2011, france24.com experienced a peak in traffic with nearly 14 million visits and about 59 million page views.
The channel has also been very successful on Twitter thanks to its intense coverage of the Arab Spring, with a large amount of tweets dedicated to the topic, which enabled the channel to quintuple the number of followers of its Twitter account since the beginning of the year.
Based on these exceptional results, France24 and its agency Marcel have decided to highlight the link between freedom of information and freedom of expression on Internet.

Year Zero - OFFF Barcelona 2011 Main Titles from PostPanic

Year Zero - OFFF Barcelona 2011 Main Titles from PostPanic on Vimeo.

Following in the footsteps of Prologue Films and The Mill, PostPanic have created this year’s prestigious opening titles 'Year Zero' for OFFF Festival 2011 in Barcelona http://offf.ws/bcn2011/

Written by Mischa Rozema and British graphic designer, Si Scott, the opening titles reflect their dark thoughts on a possible future. Directed by Mischa and shot on location in Prague, the film guides the viewer through a grim scenario embedded with the names of artists appearing at this year’s OFFF festival. The live action was brought back to Amsterdam for post, primarily carried out by PostPanic’s in-house team of artists but also with the additional help of freelancers and partner companies that we have enjoyed strong creative relationships with over the years. It’s really fair to say that this was a labour of love by a passionate crew of people.

Mischa Rozema, Director, says:
“We knew we wanted to make something that would unsettle and menace the audience. It was always going to be dark but also highly aesthetic. This project has filled our spare hours for the past 6 months and it is incredibly satisfying to work on something that we were given complete creative freedom on – that’s a rare luxury these days.”

Says Ania Markham, Executive Producer at PostPanic:
“The images created by the crew of people working on the titles has been unbelievable, with nationalities represented including Dutch, Czech, English, Polish, German, Swedish and Belgian. It’s been a great opportunity for all of us to work together on a non-commercial project we’re passionate about and we’re so proud of the combined effort and final result.”

About OFFF Festival 2011

OFFF is an entity in continuous transformation, alive and evolutionary. More than a decade ago, it was born as a post-digital culture festival; a meeting place to host contemporary creation through an in depth program of conferences, workshops and performances by the most relevant artists of our time.

These days, OFFF keeps being a reference event throughout the world. A festival hosted in Barcelona, New York, Lisbon and Paris which has featured renowned artists such as Joshua Davis, Stefan Sagmeister, John Maeda, Neville Brody, Kyle Cooper, The Mill, Digital Kitchen, Ben Fry & Casey Reas, Golan Levin, Chris Milk, Rob Chiu, Julien Vallée, Paula Scher, Rick Poynor, Erik Spiekermann, Dvein, Erik Natzke, Vincent Moon, Ze Frank, Alex Trochut, among others…The festival where a new generation of artists has originated and developed. All of them started attending OFFF as spectators. Today, they take up its main stage.

Imaginary Forces - Starhawk E3 Trailer from Imaginary Forces on Vimeo.

Sony unveiled its latest sci-fi western combat video game, Starhawk, at E3 - the world's largest video game conference.

Director Grant Lau and VFX Supervisor Alex Frisch created a futuristic world filled with spaceships, ATV's, robotic fighters, and massive explosions entirely in CG.

Imaginary Forces collaborated with 3rd Floor, who did the pre-visualization and motion capture, and Spatial Harmonics Group, who did some of the visual effects for us: fume, exhaust, thruster, and dirt/dust.

Elements based on the game assets were given a cinematic feel as the viewer is introduced to the lead character and his story.

3-Way Street from ronconcocacola on Vimeo.

By summer 2010, the expansion of bike lanes in NYC exposed a clash of long-standing bad habits — such as pedestrians jaywalking, cyclists running red lights, and motorists plowing through crosswalks.

By focusing on one intersection as a case study, my video aims to show our interconnection and shared role in improving the safety and usability of our streets.

The video is part of a larger campaign I created called '3-Way Street'. Please see blog.ronconcocacola.com for more details.

Turismo Carretera Racing from Plenty on Vimeo.

Carburando, the main company that spreads the Argentine motor racing, summoned us to create the openings of its major categories.

The first one was for the exciting TC Track, the most popular category in Argentina, where the rivality is only comparable to that of soccer teams. 4 different brands, incredible popular in the 60's and 70's are part of the competition: Ford's "Falcon" "The Chevy" of Chevrolet, "The Dodge" of Dodge and "The Torino" of Renault.

It is a fight to death among gladiators, who arm themselves in their caves and go out as beasts to the meeting in the track race. They will measure themselves in a hand-by-hand fight in a dark and surrealistic scene.

It only lasts 35 seconds, but it ask for more. Maybe the story will have its end soon.

Tactile Waveforms from Süperfad

Tactile Waveforms from Süperfad on Vimeo.

Süperfad’s latest short film, directed by Nando Costa, explores the connections between science, mathematics and music. Drawings representing a musical score are released into stylized landscapes that illustrate conditions through which sounds travel. These drawn representations react in different ways when traveling through the desolate landscapes, transforming into impossible musical instruments and altering elements in the environment along the way. The film’s structure is defined by World Gang’s music composition, which features classic instruments altered electronically to create the track. Working in a push and pull relationship, the film’s video and audio abstractions unite in an experience that is both otherworldly and rooted in tradition.
